Now Hiring: Project Manager – Small, Fast-Paced, High-Innovation Wireless Sensor Company

Who we are

Phase IV Engineering is celebrating its 25th year in Boulder and is known worldwide for its engineering expertise in wireless sensor systems.   We’re on the leading edge of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) revolution and have received numerous industry awards including Sensor Engineering Team of the Year.  We’re a team of sharp engineers who like to dig in and solve big, interesting problems.

Top Reasons to Work with Us

  • Work side by side with an industry leading engineering team and gain great experience
  • Fun work environment without the big company overhead
  • Excellent room for growth
  • Great benefits – – Health, dental, vision and disability insurance

Why you might consider applying for a job at Phase IV Engineering, even if you already have a job:

  • You want to join the recognized industry leader in innovation in a rapidly growing IoT market. (Phase IV recently won both “Sensor Engineering Team of the Year” and “Product of the Year”).
  • You want to see your efforts make a difference – on a daily basis. You want to see your ideas quickly come to life and bear fruit.
  • You really are willing to trade the comforts of a safe, slow, bureaucratic corporation for the thrill of fast-paced innovation – even if it means that innovative plans don’t always work and require an extra effort to get back on track.
  • You want to work with a small team of smart and responsible people that can innovate ten times faster than most other companies and don’t need endless meetings and management red tape to get the job done. Team members respect each other and lean on each other’s area of expertise.  We enforce the “no jerks allowed” rule.
  • You want to be part of a company that is fueling its rapid growth by continually developing and producing industry-leading products. You are willing to deal with small company growing pains to get this.
  • You want to work with a manager that is like-able, smart, open, honest, and a good mentor.

Our project managers are getting spread thin as we grow and change.  We are successfully transitioning from a wireless sensor contract engineering company to a leading supplier of our own wireless sensor products.

The areas we mainly need help are:

  • Project management – working with customers to understand their unique requirements – then developing a specification, project estimate, project plan, and working with the engineering team to get sensor designed and built.
    • When innovating, things don’t always go as planned. We are looking for a project manager that can be the interface between the client and our engineering team to keep the client informed and use some management finesse with our engineering team to get the project budget and schedule back on track.
  • Proposal Writing and Engineering Cost Estimating – for custom wireless sensor systems, our specialty.
  • Support – working with your clients to get their systems running.
    • You will typically work with a business development employee and with new customers to estimate the cost of the project, write the proposal, manage the project, and support the installation. (For the right person, this can be very satisfying).
  • Manufacturing Management, Materials Management, Process Development, and Quality System development – to help this growing part of our company. This area isn’t as important as the other areas – but if you have experience in this area, please let us know.

The person we hire may not have expertise in all of these areas.  We are looking for someone that can very effectively fill several of these needs.

Qualifications (that we will focus on during the interview process)

  • We need someone that has a strong technical background. A degree in electrical engineering and experience with electronics and radio frequency devices is what we typically look for – but we are open minded.  If you don’t have an electrical engineering degree, then tell us why you can be effective without one.
  • Project management require a high degree of detail management. You will be juggling 5+ projects/orders at a time.  Keeping things organized, not getting caught off-guard, and keeping projects moving is critical to making them profitable.
  • You must be a good communicator and manager and must be able to effectively explain technical concepts to non-technical customers and take customer needs and turn them into do-able technical requirements that you can use to guide our engineering team to delivering.
  • In addition to strong technical skills, we need a person with business skills. Innovation projects are thrilling – but they must be profitable too.  We need someone that can keep an eye on making sure projects generate patents and profits.
  • To fit-in with our team, you also must be a great communicator, a straight-shooter, smart, responsible, an independent learner, and self-driven.
