Wireless Stress/Strain Sensors

Strain sensors and stress sensors have many uses, whether for structural health monitoring, composite material durability and damage detection, condition-based maintenance, or failure prevention in extreme environments. Several strain sensing technologies may be employed, such as Wheatstone bridge type sensors, piezoelectric and piezoresistive, piezoelectric thin films, digital load cell, and MEMS-based sensors. Integrate additional wireless sensors to measure other sensing parameters such as temperature, humidity/moisture, pH, and vibration/shock. Please call us to discuss your specific requirements.

Phase IV Engineering Celebrates 18 Years in Business
 Battery-Free (Passive) RFID Stress/Strain Sensing

Ultra-small, mobile, rugged, multi-sensorBy attaching strain sensors to Phase IV Engineering’s unique wireless, battery-free SensIC™ passive RFID ASIC, an inexpensive wireless strain sensor can be embedded in products during production or construction. A hand-held reader uses radio frequency waves to power-up and then read the sensor through materials. No battery means no maintenance, long-term monitoring and long life.

Read Range: 1-inch to several feet, depending on the application.

Stress/Strain range, accuracy and performance:  Sensor and application dependent.

Form Factor: The extremely miniature form factor of these sensors permits them to be embedded and implemented in widely diverse applications.

Multi-sensor options allow for up to 3 different sensors—including temperature compensation.

 Battery-Powered (Active) Stress/Strain Sensing

Low-power and long-life, long-distance data transmission, multi-sensor, provides continuous monitoring and alerts, wireless battery charging options, low-cost.

Data Transmission Range: Several feet to over a mile, depending on the application.

Automated alerts can be programmed in the receiver to turn on warning lights or send warning e-mails when pre-set limits are exceeded.

Stress/Strain range, accuracy and performance:  Sensor and application dependent.

Form Factor: A variety of form factors and low-power options enables these sensors to be utilized in many different environments—from civil engineering in construction and structural health monitoring, composite materials, curing processes, industrial embedded processes, agriculture, aerospace, oil and gas, utilities, military, and many more.

 Wireless Stress/Strain Data Logging

Provides sensor monitoring in-transit, or when the item being monitored is mobile and sealed.

Ultra-small, mobile, rugged, multi-sensor, low thermal mass – high sensor sensitivity.

Wireless communication allows the sensor to be embedded or sealed.

Stress/Strain range, accuracy and performance:  Sensor and application dependent.

Multi-Sensor devices available for temperature, humidity, pressure ...

 Hybrid Technology Stress/Strain Sensors

Combine technologies to create “sign post” sensors.  RFID readers at “process gates” transmit location data to a sensor. Upon receiving a location signal, the "sign post" sensor sends a powered, long-range transmission of ID, location, and sensor data (such as stress/strain, humidity and temperature).

Ultra-small, mobile, rugged, multi-sensor, low thermal mass–high sensor sensitivity.  Wireless communication allows the sensor to be sealed.

Stress/Strain range, accuracy and performance:  Sensor and application dependent.

 Energy Harvesting Stress/Strain Sensors

Get the maintenance-free benefits of “no-battery” replacement and long transmission ranges with energy harvesting sensors.

Energy Harvesting Sensors

Self-powered sensors harvest power from radio waves, solar, vibration, piezo, thermal… depending on the application.
