 Battery-Free Temperature Sensing
Small Battery-Free Wireless Sensor that is mobile and rugged

Many temperature sensing applications need a sensor that is battery-free, ultra-miniature, mobile and rugged.  To address this challenging problem, Phase IV invented battery-free temperature sensing over a decade ago by designing the first RFID ASIC with an on-board temperature sensor.  Over the years, Phase IV has refined this technology to be the industry leader.  Eliminating the battery allows us to make some of the world’s smallest sensors that are extraordinarily rugged and mobile.

 Miniature Active Temperature Transmitters
Thin Film Battery, Wireless Sensor, Temperature, miniature sensor

Need Real-Time Sensor Data – From a Distance?  Phase IV has a vast experience developing custom low-power sensor transmitters using the latest technology – such as thin-film batteries.  Phase IV also has experience integrating wireless battery re-charging to extend the life of miniature sensors for years.

 Pressure Sensing
Aircraft Tire Pressure, TPMS, Wireless Sensing, Temperature, Pressure, RFID ASIC, SensIC, SmartStem

How do you monitor something frequently without ever touching it?  That’s the case with aircraft tires.  Ideally, the best way to check the tires is often – without ever touching them.  Phase IV integrated its battery-free, maintenance-free sensors in the 777 aircraft valve stem.  Now the maintenance crew can point a wand at the stem, take the pressure and temperature within seconds, and store the sensor data electronically.

 Strain and Vibration
Sensors, Strain, Vibration, Wireless Sensing

How could a strain sensor be embedded in a wall or concrete and provide stress monitoring for decades?  By using Phase IV’s unique wireless, battery-free strain sensors, an inexpensive sensor can be installed during construction.  A hand-held reader uses radio frequency waves to power-up and then read the sensor.  With no battery, the sensor lasts for decades.

Environmental Conditions (Humidity, Barometric Pressure, Temperature)
RFID, data logging, cold chain, shipping container, food processing, transportation, temperature, sensors, wireless sensing

Need to know the environmental conditions in a place that hard to measure – like inside a can of food or a locked shipping container?  By combining on-board data-logging with an expertise in wireless sensor data transmission, Phase IV has solved these problems in a variety of ways to meet the unique monitoring challenges.

Weight / Force (Tension and Compression)
Sensors, weight, force, tension, compression, wireless sensing solutions

How can I put a scale in a place that is nearly impossible reach and maintain?  Phase IV’s sensors don’t need cables – and some don’t even need batteries.  The data can be transmitted using our unique battery-free RFID-like technology, wireless RF methods, or by logging the data on the sensor until it is downloaded wirelessly at a later time.

 Contactless Angular Position and Speed

Machine sensors, gears, moving parts, RFID, wireless sensors, metal, reader

How do I get sensor data when the sensor is moving and in a metal enclosure?  Measuring and monitoring moving parts in a machine can be a real challenge.  Phase IV has solved these problems in different ways.  If the sensor needs to be ultra-small, it can be powered wirelessly with an RF signal.  If RF data transmission is not an option because the sensor is in a metal enclosure, then the data can be logged on-board at a set frequency – then downloaded at a later time when the enclosure can be opened and the data transmitted to a reader.

Combination of Sensors and Temperature Compensation

Multi-sensing, battery-less sensors, miniature sensors, high temperature sensors, humidity sensor, pressure sensor, shock sensor, strain sensor, tamper sensor, tilt sensor, proximity sensor, force sensor, torque sensor

How do I monitor my process if it requires different types of sensor measurements?  Phase IV specializes in developing sensors that monitor several key process parameters, such as temperature and pressure, in one wireless sensor package.  In addition, we have the expertise and tools to implement temperature compensation that is often required to adjust some sensors to achieve high-precision and repeatablity across wide temperature ranges.
